Hong Yue 2011 Early Spring Puer Tea, 357gm Cake
General Information: Yunnan Broad Leaf Varietal, Old tree tea, Naturally post fermented. Hand picked, rolled and sun dried. Stone-pressed. This is a tea from Jinuo Shan (Youle Shan). We have produced it with a different tea farmer from our 2010 Hong Yue. It is from the same area of Jinuo Shan and has a similar flavour profile. We are very happy with the way it has turned out.
Cake: The cakes are nicely made with a decent number of tips throughout. The pressure is even and not too tight.
Broth & flavour: The beixiang is dense with honey and floral notes. The flavour has some body and is pleasingly rounded. A little astringence is accompanied by good shengjin (promoting salivation). The rukou has some bitterness which lingers and, in doing so, produces a nice balance between fragrant-bitter-sweet flavours. The broth is a good, clear yellow-amber. Huigan is quick; present in the mouth and throat along with pleasing floral notes.
